RF regions

The map below shows which RF channel plan can be used by devices and base stations depending on their geographical location. Relevant channel plans appear when hovering over a region.

An RF Region defines the RF channel plan (that is to say, frequency allocation) to be used by devices and base stations. It also defines the maximum authorized transmission power and duty cycle and/or Listen Before Talk (LBT) limits for downlink channels, according to the local regulations in each country/region.

RF Region also defines a set of radio parameters related to LoRaWAN® MAC layer, such as the RX1 Data Rate Offset, RX2 Frequency and Data Rate, RX delay...

Several RF Regions may be defined in the network, each RF Region typically covering a continuous geographical area. Each base station, using LRR or Basics™Station packet forwarder, is associated with a given RF Region. All base stations sharing the same RF Region shall have the same set of configuration parameters.

When an RF Region is associated with a base station (LRR), all the devices served by this base station as their best-LRR shall inherit the RF channel plan and radio parameters set in this RF Region.

We recommend avoiding as much as possible overlapping between distinct RF Regions, as well as setting the boundaries of each RF Region in a way to minimize the border effect.
