Creating a multicast group

Prerequisites

  • Before creating your multicast group, you need to create base station tags. Base station tags define the list of base stations transmitting downlinks sent to the multicast group. To learn more about base station tagging, see Tagging a base station for the first time.

  • Before creating your multicast group, you need to create connections. Connections allow the downlink transmission from applications to the multicast group. To learn more about connections, click Connecting an application to your IoT network.

Entering your multicast group information

  1. In the left panel, select Multicast Groups, and click ADD MULTICAST GROUP in the Multicast Groups page.

-> The multicast group creation form opens.

  2. Enter a name for your multicast group.

  3. If the permission segregation based on domains has been enabled by an Administrator user, associate your multicast group with domains. If your user account has domain restrictions, the selected domains must match your domain restrictions without any domain prefix (only full domains can be assigned to resources). See About domains for more details.

  4. Enter the DevEUI. To learn more about DevEUI, click Specific device parameters for Activation By Personalization (ABP).

  5. Enter the DevAddr. To learn more about DevAddr, click Specific device parameters for Activation By Personalization (ABP).

  6. Select the LoRaWAN® version. Possible values are 1.0.x or 1.1.

    1. If you select LoRaWAN® version 1.0.x, enter the NwkSKey and the AppSKey.

    2. If you select LoRaWAN® versions 1.1, enter the SNwkSIntKey and the AppSKey.

  7. (Optional) Write additional information.

Entering your multicast group RF parameters

  1. In Base Stations Tags, click to add a multicast tag. You must select at least one base station tag. To learn more, click Tagging a base station for the first time.

  2. Select a LoRaWAN® class. Possible classes are B and C. To learn more, click Supported classes of LoRaWAN® devices.

    1. If you select class B, you can select a ping-slot period in the combo box. Default value is 128 seconds.

    2. If you select class C, the ping-slot period combo box is unavailable.

  3. Select a downlink frequency. The downlink frequency list is based on the RF region of the first base station from the base station tagged list. In case of multiple Base Station Tags in your multicast group parameters, the downlink frequency list is based on the RF region of the first base station from the base station list of the first tag in Base Station Tags.

  4. Select a downlink data rate. The downlink data rate list is based on the ISM band of the first base station from the base station tagged list. In case of multiple Base Station Tags in your multicast group parameters, the downlink data rate list is based on the ISM band of the first base station from the base station list of the first tag in Base Station Tags.

Associating your multicast group with connections

To send downlinks to your multicast group, you have to associate one or more connections.

  1. In Connections, select a connection from the list.

  2. To add another connection, click .

  3. If you added more than one connection, click to delete a connection.

  4. If Choose Your Connectivity Plan section is not displayed: click ADD to create your multicast group.

  5. If Choose Your Connectivity Plan section is displayed: go to Associating your multicast group with a connectivity plan.

Associating your multicast group with a connectivity plan

Only applies if Connectivity Plans is displayed in the main menu.

  1. Go to the Choose Your Connectivity Plan section.

  2. Select a connectivity plan from the Connectivity plan list.

  3. Click ADD to create your multicast group.
