Building your IoT Network

The LoRaWAN® network architecture consists of:

  1. Devices, also known as sensors,
  2. LoRaWAN® gateways, known as base stations in ThingPark terminology,
  3. LoRaWAN® core network, consisting of the network server and the join server,
  4. Customer's IoT applications, processing devices' uplink measurements and sending downlink configuration/actuation messages.

To build your IoT network, you need to:

  1. Deploy your radio access network, through a fleet of base stations. You may complement your RF coverage via LoRaWAN relays.

    note

Thanks to ThingPark Exchange, you may rely on roaming to leverage the RF coverage provided by your roaming partners in geographical areas that are not covered by your own radio network.

To learn more about roaming and ThingPark Exchange, contact your support team.

  1. Provision the subscriber's LoRaWAN devices to their ThingPark account.

  2. Connect the subscriber's IoT applications to the ThingPark account.

tip

For the sake of spectral efficiency, sending the same downlink message to a group of devices requires using Multicast Groups. This is particularly needed for Firmware Upgrade Over the Air (FUOTA) use cases.
