Adding a multicast group

Users with either the Administrator role or the Device, Multicast Groups and Connections Manager role may activate devices on ThingPark. Other roles cannot execute these procedures.

Prerequisites

Ensure that you have all parameters ready to be set prior to selecting your multicast group provisioning form. To learn more, see Multicast group attributes.

Before adding your multicast group, you need to define the list of base stations transmitting downlinks to the multicast group. This list is defined through a base station tag that identifies a group of base stations within the reach of the target multicast devices. Usually a base station tag corresponds to a geographic area.
You must know which tag corresponds to the area where your multicast devices are or will be located.

note

A multicast group may have one or more base station tags.

To learn more about base station tagging, see Tagging a bulk of base stations.

Filling the multicast group details

  1. In the left panel, select Multicast Groups, and click ADD MULTICAST GROUP in the Multicast Groups page.

  2. Fill the Name of your multicast group.

  3. If the permission segregation based on domains has been enabled by an Administrator user, associate your multicast group with domains. If your user account has domain restrictions, the selected domains must match your domain restrictions without any domain prefix (only full domains can be assigned to resources). See About domains for more details.

  4. Enter the DevEUI and Device address.

  5. Select the LoRaWAN® version. Possible values are 1.0.x and 1.1.

    • If you select LoRaWAN® version 1.0.x, enter the NwkSKey and the AppSKey.
    • If you select LoRaWAN® versions 1.1, enter the SNwkSIntKey and the AppSKey.
    • AppSKey provisioning is optional:
      • If you do not provision the AppSKey: multicast downlink payloads must be provided encrypted by the application servers.
      • If you provision the AppSKey: multicast downlink payloads must be provided in clear by the application servers. ThingPark encrypts the payloads before transmission over the air.
  6. In Base Stations Tags, click to add a multicast tag. You must select at least one base station tag. To learn more, see Tagging a bulk of base stations.

  7. Select the Class Type. Possible LoRaWAN® classes are B and C. To learn more, see Device classes. If you select class B, you must choose the Ping-slot period. The default value is 128 seconds.

  8. Select the Downlink frequency. Only downlink frequencies supported by the associated base stations are available.

  9. Select the Downlink data rate. Only downlink data rates supported by the associated base stations are available.

  10. If the Choose Your Connectivity Plan section is displayed, select from Connectivity plan the connectivity plan you want to use with the device. To see all the connectivity plans of your account, along with their supported features, see Listing connectivity plans.

  11. In Associate Your Multicast Group With Your Connection, select one or several Connections that you want to associate with your multicast group.

  12. Click ADD to add your multicast group.
