Suspending and resuming a device

If you are entitled to an Administrator role or to a Devices and Connection Manager role, then you can suspend and resume a device. Otherwise, you cannot perform the following procedure.

You may need to hold the activity of your devices for a specific amount of time.

When a device is suspended, the network automatically sends the DutyCycleReq MAC command to the device, to configure its transmission duty cycle to the lowest value. This mechanism has two benefits:

• Minimize the pollution impact of the suspended device on the radio interface
• Preserve the device battery while its connectivity with the network is temporarily suspended.

By default, the maximum uplink duty cycle sent to suspended devices in the DutyCycleReq MAC command is set to 0.00305%.

Note A suspended device may be resumed at any time without requiring it to initiate a new "join" procedure. When a suspended device is resumed, the network sends another DutyCycleReq MAC command to reconfigure the device with the normal duty cycle.

Note If you no longer want to use a device, deactivate it. Do a Delete action from the Device list table.

Suspending a device

A device can be suspended in all health states: active, initialization and connection error. For more information, see Devices health states.

Do one of the following:

• From the Device's detailed dashboard, use the suspend icon at the top right:

  

• To suspend an active device using the Device list:

  1. Choose an active device.

  2. Using the actions represented by the icon of the last column , select Suspend.

     -> A window displays to explain you what happens when an active device is suspended with regards to the duty cycle and the traffic.

  3. Click SUSPEND.

-> The device health state changes from active to suspended. This is illustrated with a light blue bullet alongside the device's logo and is visible in the Device list.

Resuming a suspended device

A device must be suspended to resume the connectivity.

Do one of the following:

• From the Device's detailed dashboard, use the resume icon at the top right:

  

• To resume a suspended device from the Device list:

  1. Choose a device in suspended state.

  2. Using the actions represented by the icon of the last column , select Resume.

     -> A window displays to explain you what happens when a suspended device is resumed with regards to the duty cycle and the traffic.

  3. Click RESUME.

-> The health state changes from suspended to initialization. This is illustrated with an orange bullet alongside the device's logo and is visible in the Device list.

The device returns from initialization to active state after it has sent an uplink. The bullet turns green. The traffic resumes. This is visible in the related Last 10 packets' graph of the device.
