Suspending and resuming the device connectivity
You may need to temporarily hold the activity of your devices, without completely deleting them from the system. For this, you may suspend the device connectivity.
Note If you no longer want to use a device, move it from the system as described in Deleting devices.
When a device is suspended, the network automatically sends the DutyCycleReq
MAC
command to the device, to configure its transmission duty cycle to the lowest
value. This mechanism has two benefits:
- Minimize the pollution impact of the suspended device on the radio interface,
- Preserve the device battery while its connectivity with the network is temporarily suspended.
By default, the maximum uplink duty cycle sent to suspended devices in the
DutyCycleReq
MAC command is set to 0.00305%.
A suspended device may be resumed at any time without requiring it to initiate
a new "join" procedure. When a suspended device is resumed, the network sends
another DutyCycleReq
MAC command to reconfigure the device with the normal duty cycle.
Suspending a device
A device can be suspended whatever its current health state: Active, Initialization and Connection Error. For more information, see Devices health states.
Do one of the following:
-
From the device's detailed dashboard, click the arrow next to the health state badge at the top right corner of the page, then Suspend.
-
From the device list, click
in the last column of the table, then select Suspend.
-> A window displays to explain you what happens when an active device is suspended with regards to the duty cycle and the traffic. Click SUSPEND to proceed.
-> The device health state changes from Active to Suspended. This is illustrated in the Device list with a light blue bullet alongside the device logo.
Removing the connectivity plan of a device automatically suspends its connectivity. To learn more about Connectivity Plan, see Device attributes.
Note Connectivity Plans are not visible in self-hosted ThingPark Enterprise deployments.
Resuming a suspended device
You may resume connectivity only for devices have their current health state set to Suspended. For more information, see Devices health states.
Do one of the following:
-
From the device's detailed dashboard, click the arrow next to the SUSPENDED badge at the top right corner of the page, then Resume.
-
From the device list, click
in the last column of the table, then select Resume.
-> A window displays to explain you what happens when a suspended device is resumed with regards to the duty cycle and the traffic. Click RESUME to proceed.
-> The health state changes from Suspended to Initialization. This is illustrated in the Device list with an orange bullet alongside the device logo.
The device returns from Initialization to the Active state upon reception of its next uplink packet and the bullet turns green. To monitor the traffic activity of this device, see Viewing the packet history.
If a device is not associated with any Connectivity Plan, assigning one to it automatically resumes its connectivity. To learn more about Connectivity Plan, see Device attributes.
Note Connectivity Plans are not visible in self-hosted ThingPark Enterprise deployments.
